Day 1: Meriakamba Hut (2500m)

Hiking time: 4-6 hours

Vegetation: mountain forest

 

We drive from Arusha to the Momella Gate. After a short registration at the gate, our hike begins with fully armed rangers accompanying us. We can see wildlife along the way including zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes and often elephants along the route up to the fig trees. When we arrive at the campsite, there is tea / coffee / chocolate drink served with popcorn and peanuts. Then you can rest until 7 p.m. and then enjoy dinner.

 

 

Day 2: Saddle Hut (3500m above sea level)

Hiking time: 3-5 hours

Distance: About 8 kilometers

Vegetation: forest and moorland

 

The hike from the Miriakaba hut to the Saddle hut below the small Meru is a short day and a steep ascent is ahead. The hike takes us slowly along the ridge and offers a spectacular view of the impressive ash cone of the Meru crater. After a warm lunch in the Sattle Hut, we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for a fantastic view before sunset.

 

 

Day 3: Summit day (4566m)

 

Hiking time: 10-12 hours

Vegetation: Alpine desert - moorland

 

We start early at 1:30 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,850m.) And then on to Cobra Point (4,350m.) We reach the summit in time for sunrise and there is the possibility to climb Kilimanjaro summit above the clouds see. We take a short rest and brunch at the Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Meriakamba Hut.

 

 

Day 4: Meriakamba to Momella Gate in Arusha (half board)

 

Hiking time: 2-4 hours

Distance: About 10 kilometers

Vegetation: mountain forest

 

We take a short and quick descent through open grassland and mixed forest. You will be able to enjoy the beautiful waterfalls in between (bathing suits for swimming can be taken with you). There is also the possibility to see many wild animals before we reach Momella Gate in the late morning.

 

The return transfer will wait for you at Momella Gate and bring you back to your accommodation.
